Start mine with antilag on, cycle revs from 4 -6k for 4 mins to heat the engine up and scorch the back wall, then launch past alems place on gate....

Turn car on.. leave turbo timer on for 10mins.. go back in and have breakfast and then drive.. Started doing that in winter so the heater would be justt rightt =)

fffffred 05-12-2008 11:56 PM

Start then drive, no point in letting it sit there and waste fuel. The quicker the engine gets to operating temp the better.

For those who wait 1min + what is your reason??

10 minutes with throttle adjusted to keep revs high and heater fan on full.
Then a bucket of warm water over the windscreen to remove remainder of snow and ice – but that was in the old country.

In Perth, with most modern cars there is no need for warm up as fffffred says. Maybe with a performance car you do not go flat-out for the first 3 or 4 mins which is sufficient to get warm oil to the rings.

If you drive it under 3K for a while before you flog your car you won't waste much fuel at all. Driving at higher RPM wastes more fuel.

Try it yourself. Drive from set location A to B at low revs and see how much fuel you use. Then do the same route flogging the shit out of your car and watch the needle drop.

I start the car with the handbrake off whilst rolling backwards out of my driveway, i let it warm up before i really stick the boot in....

wannabox 06-12-2008 08:40 AM

Start her up, rev it on limmiter while rolling down the driveway, launch it hard to get the clutch warmed up.

Then I see how fast I can get before the end of my street and get hard on the Brembos to get my pads warmed up.

The I drive to work not getting over 3000RPM because I am afraid I might bust something :P...

Slight misunderstanding here I think mate. ffffred was refering to letting your car idle (stationary) for a few minutes as a waste of fuel.

Personally I leave my car to idle for a few minutes before setting off. I just figure, i hate getting out of bed in the morning and doing things i dont really want to do... It takes me a while to warm up and get into it.
I feel for my car, she likes to be woken up gently.

Dont drive mine unless the temperture gauge is pointing above C. There are rare occasions if Im late for work/get out of situations.
