How long do you warm your car up for?
Thought I'd start a new thread, after reading LegacyRS's thread about warming his car up in the morning.
How long do you warm your car up for before you drive it? Going from some replies I've seen in other threads, it ranges from not at all to 15 minutes. I don't warm mine up at all. Once my car is started, about 5 seconds later its rolling out of the garage, and 30 seconds later its out on the road (by the time I wait for traffic to drive past). I drive it nicely, light throttle and keep the revs down until the car is at operating temp, then I drive it normally. So...how do you do it? |
Same for me. Fire it up and take it easy till its at temp. Oil temp gauge was handy for letting me know it was ready to rock.
30 seconds to 1 minute of idling at 1500rpm. Then take off and keep it under 3500rpm and 5psi until I hit 85 C. My Old ej20G needs a little extra TLC.
Same again for me, 30 seconds or so after started to let the revs level out, then i'm on the road taking it very easy until it' up to temp.
Exactly the same as you boys. No boost until it's at operating temp
Hmmm, Oil temp guage is a good idea.
I don't warm up, I head out but take it easy for 5-10 mins (2,500RPM max, no boost obviously). Needed a pole here, Mr Joe... |
Start it, straight out, warm it up on the road, open gate.
Max 5 mins in winter
Couple of minutes in summer. Drive off boost and under 3k rpm until oil's at 60 degrees. Everyone will be different, some people have to exit their driveway directly into peak hour traffic on a busy street (like me), others will have a couple of kays in back streets at 50 kph to gently warm it up. |
i let mine warm up for a few minutes, while i get the last minute things together. probably 5 minutes at the most
I reverse out on boost.
