Same here, i'll have a baby seat in mine and don't want to remove the rear seat for the sake of a harness. What other options are there? The child restraint bar looks to solve that problem. Given the bar takes in all the restraint points and the entire width of the parcel shelf, i'd be of the 'assumption' it would be strong enough.

Well it looks to be strong but as mentioned it does pick up the Isofix points which are only really designed to hold a child....but as you mention JME the load would be spread across the 3 Isofix points and the 2 seat belt mounts. I wonder if the Isofix can still be used with the bar fitted?
I have read very good reviews of the CG lock if you dont want to go to the effort of a harness or the compromises it can bring: http://www.cg-lock.com/ I think something else to keep in mind is that you are hoping to never need to make use of your restraint system so if your just in a road car you might want to wind it back a few tenths and rely on the harness just as a means to keep you held firmly in the seat |

I wouldn't use a harness without a roll cage, a HANS device and proper race seat (personal choice).

Just put the eyelets in between the backseat (where the seatbelt bolts are). Clip in and clip out harness as needed.
Angle of the dangle of the harness should also be within CAMS approval.

While the angle MAY be within the maximum limits in the CAMS manual. The ideal drop for the belt angle is 10 degrees. Anything greater than 10 increaes the chance of injury.

Yeah Dan, safest is the lowest angle possible imo... But if it was all for safety it would be as per Fred's post (cage+hans). I'd say 90% of people wanting a harness in is to stop them moving around in the seat at AHG.
For a daily driver/weekend warrior this option or the harness bar on the rear parcel shelf are the only options, unless you want to start taking seats in and out.

I guess its not an ideal situation to be having a compromise on your safety like this but I think if your not falling out of the seats all the time your driving should be X% better anyway. |
