Default Buying WRP10 or CS EVO 8

Hi All,

I'm a long time lurker, and have finally decided to buy a wrx...

Been looking at the two above mentioned models.

I like the Sunroof on the CS, but the leather seats im not a fan of. Was sliding out during cornering on a test drive.

Will look at a WRP10 soon, and after doing some research ive done it has the following mods over a regular WRX:

Front Strut Brace.
Wheels.
Sti Springs.
Retuned ECU making a handful of KW more.

Now the question is...i plan on the following mods later down the track:
TBE, Coilovers, Intake and Verso.

Will any of this be an issue? E.g. is the WRP10's ecu capable of being Verso-ed?

Just really looking for some assurance that this is the right model to buy for what im after...Nice daily driver, aiming for 200hp atw with those mods, and fuel consumption somewhere around the 450-500 range for a full tank...

EDIT: Also, it looks like the car has a few mods (Exhaust at least). I understand that a TBE on these cars without a retune is no good. Is a place like ASG the best bet to get the car completely checked out first? I think RAC stopped doing inspections...

Thanks in advance.

Buy an STI if you can. Otherwise don't pay a premium for the WRP10 over a normal MY05 WRX . There's not much difference and you're going to mod it anyway.

WRP10 hands down over a CS8 but if you can strech your
budget a bit more just get an STi, its well worth the little
bit extra.

as AIG said...better to save the upfront cost of cs8/wrp10 and and get a wrx...use the money from the difference to get your mods...

yup. If you can get an 02/03 STI instead of a 05 WRX WRP10 it'll be much better.

Wow thanks for the quick replies...

Just to clarify, the cars im looking at are about the same price as a normal MY05, so i'm not paying any huge premium.

Just really wanted to know if the WRP10 (because of the retuned ECU) can be verso-ed like normal MY05.

I havent really considered an STI because i always thought it was too hard core?

Am i wrong? Seeing as i will use it as a daily driver.

Yes the WRP10 ECU can be versoed its just a normal
one that has been tweaked by subaru.

STi too hardcore, no way just a better package all around
and definately better value for money than a normal wrx.

As others have mentioned, I would be looking for a slightly older, low km STI. if you are set on the shape of either the CS8 or the WRP10, then I would look for an 03 sti. Same looking car.

To answer your questions tho, yes a WRP10 ECU is verso-able. I don't see why it shoudn't be. As far as I know, all WRX/STI ECU's post 00 are able to be done.

I had an 02 sti as a 'daily driver'. well it was my only car, i didn't drive it every day, but there was no reason why i couldnt. But you get the best of everything. For example, an 03/04 sti would come with brembo brakes, forged internals, 6speed manual (much stronger box) and many other mods, including intercooler waterspray and interior differences.

All of these things are a great platform to begin modding, where as, if you send $10k on a WRX doing power mods, you will eventually want to upgrade the brakes, get a cooling system for ur cooler, blah blah... the bonus' of an sti, is its all done already.

If you still think an sti isnt for you, the buy a normal 05 WRX, as people will tend to think, because the CS8 and the WRP10 are 'limited editions' that they are worth more than a WRX. If you can get one for a similar price to your avg. 05 WRX, then go ahead.

Enjoy
