Default Coilover setting for drags

Down to see how much difference the Perrin Headers have made Wed night and wondering what to do with suspension settings for the best launch ( was stock suspension last time it run )

I take it although the sways are adjustable they will make screw all difference which leaves me with the Group 4's.

Gut feeling says full stiff on the front and full soft on the rear but if anyone has worked out what is best some guidance would be good.

Sounds like a good starting point! Also lock you diff in full rear, could also fiddle with tyre pressures if keen.

good luck.

Yea on to the full rear setting on DCCD already just the coilovers. I'm pretty certain the rear needs to be soft its the front that I am completely guessing.

I'm serious enough to change suspension.

Why undo sway bars???

You want the rear to squat and stay dropped to aid in weight transfer and then holding that weight over the rear tyres for traction. The front would only need something like an ALK and your normal day to day settings as it is copping only 35% torque with it on full rear. Therefore rears would be soft on the bump but hard on rebound. Also drop all tyres to between 20 and 25psi and make sure you pump them up before you go too far and forget

Might also put in a disclaimer. There's every chance you'll snap one or 2 rear driveshafts or possibly the rear diff, but such is life on the blacktop

^^^What Bruce said.
Also I'm guessing your coils are adjustable from the top? Just muck around with it until you get what you feel is right.

Why do you want your rear shocks on full soft??

taking it to the extreme, assume you had no shocks at all - your rear wheels would almost bounce when they start to slip, (and then continue bouncing due to the spring) and then you get no traction at all.
then on the other extreme, assume the shocks are locked solid - once again your rear wheels will start to slip, and then the whole car will hop along...once again, no traction.

I recon you need a compromise between hard and soft.
if you can record a hard launch with a video camera, and see what your car is doing....then maybe adjust from there???

Steve.

Watch any drag racing video - every car (bar gay FWD's) squat to the rear for traction.

I haven't tried a wide enough selection of tyres to prove this conclusively but I found I had a much better launch with the DCCD locked (50:50) rather than open (41:59). The added traction was more beneficial for me than any weight transfer characteristics, especially running RE070s. Assuming you are still running RE070s, you may find them a bit slippery if you don't do a burnout. Running the centre diff open, my car was quite taily and I even had to back off on my launches towards the end of the night when the track cooled. I would definitely try both approaches and see how you go.

Softer the better on the suspension too of course. I had a much smoother launch with stock struts and springs than I do now even with coil overs on the softest setting.

I don't think you'll be breaking shafts or a diff in a hurry with the R180.
