Default Buying an unlic car

Just bought a GC3 for my brother that is unlicensed.
Seller didnt have the rego papers as he never had it licensed. He had intentions of fixing the motor and rego then lost interest and it sat in his yard the last 2 years.

I called revs this morning and they wont help without a rego number. DPI wont give out a rego over the phone but are happy to give it to me if I go in person with the rego papers...

Any tips on making sure everything is sweet?
I gave the vin to the lady at dpi and she said that nothing came up.

Did you get a recipt from the guy saying it was unencumbered? when Gull & I bought that 99 Grand Vitara for $400 it was the same thing, you just take the recipt with you when you take it over the pits, if it looks like it was really sitting there for 2 years I wouldn't worry too much about it, you know where he lives.

Yeah got a reciept and as you say I know where he lives. It had at least 2 years worth of cobwebs and dust on it.
All seems above board and car wasnt rediculously cheap for its condition.
Just want to cover all bases.

Mate, if it was stolen I'm pretty sure it would have had a red flag when you gave the vin No. and let's face it, how much could be owing on a GC3.
Nice & warm there? bloody cold here in Fog City Congqing China and stuck here till summer holidays in June, then I can come home and drive my babies for 6 weeks........or sell them.
