Hydraulic lock in the engine with water will bend rods.

It's a strip down and rebuild if it's done properly, take the money and run.

Is the body badly hail damaged?
If not buy (at auction maybe) a hail damaged but mechanically ok WRX and swap the running gear into yours.

Just let it go. Submersion in water will lead to numerous issues later down the track in a number of components.

Has and water entered wheel bearings, gearbox, diff, electrical boxes???

To many potential things that might bite you in the ass later down the track.

Take it as a good oportunity to find a younger, hotter girl!!!

if the engine didnt start, i highly doubt the starter motor alone would have the power to bend a conrod in the event of a hydro lock, it would just fail to turn over.

How deep was your car submerged? was it only as high as your photo or did it get higher?

As other have said mate, I'd count your losses, take the insurance money and buy another one. To many unknowns down the track with the buy back and do up scenario

I'm with the guys as far as grabbing the money and getting a new car but if you want a straight down the line opinion, talk to John (Fats) at JWS in Wangara. 0893023519.
Good luck.
