Default So double demerits dont work...

http://www.perthnow.com.au/news/west...-1225884639034

so double the fines instead, that's sure to fix the problem!

Maybe this was from some time ago but didn't double demerits go hand in hand with doubling the fines?

Yeah pretty sure they did and then they realised that not everyone could afford to pay the fines so they revoked it

IF they were serious about "road safety" they would increase fines 100 fold. Then NO-ONE except for utter morons from the dregs of the gene pool in the intelligence dept would speed, not wear seatbelt, talk on mobile etc.

But of COURSE they wouldn't do that..... it would mean a lo$$ of revenue.

Traffic infringement fine amounts are carefully weighed up, taking all factors of driver mentality (eg risk taking vs pay packet) into consideration, thereby maximizing monetary gain.

Really?

I'm more swayed towards they choose areas' that have the most usage or greater chance of retrieving revenue for them; if that also happens to be an area that also creates greater public safety then its a double whammy for them.

Either way its win win.

Yep, that too - Only that it's a factor in the deployment side of the revenue raising model, rather than the theory.

i think it was like that for a while, but then i think they couldnt just double fines for selected periods, so alot of people who were given double demerit and doubled fines didnt have to pay twice the amount, so they just went with double demerits
