The ej207 I'm about to retire has 240,000+ km on it, It is still running fine with 1.7bar.......
It's had various mods & tunes (1.2,1,4 & 1.7 bar) over the last 3 years & still doesn't use any oil....The piston skirts are worn though and she is starting to have a wee bit of piston slap at normal running temps toodling to & from work in traffic....If I drive a little harder & heat it up properly she's dead quiet. I suppose the moral is, look after it, tune it within reason & it will last quite a while with an enjoyable amount of power. If you want big power buy or build up a 207 short. In the mean time add a GD STI top mount, zorst, tune & keep an eye out for secondhand VF turbo's as they pop up for sale. For track days also look at improving the brakes & suspension.

You would be surprised what a 205 can handle, my Bugeye has 220000k's on the clock, big turbo, intercooler, zorst, injectors, the usual stuff. At the moment its running 1.4Bar, all day everyday. doesn't use oil, doesn't make a sound. My advice, pretty much what everyone else has said. Get the injectors, VF, intercooler, zorst and fuel pump, Get a quality tune, the car will be transformed, and you'll probably make close to 250awhp. Then get the suspension and handling mods, plus track time, you should have done first! Then once your used to the power, look at the next step.
My point is, you don't need to crack the engine to make good, reliable power, not for stage 1 at least.

My bad, I live in a world where everything doesn't have to be abbreviated or shortened out of pure laziness.

In regards to your original question, stick to what the others have said. Exhaust, Fuel Pump and a retune (Verso or Ecutek) should see a mild improvement in power but most of all a good increase in midrange torque. Best thing to do then is to take it down to RAC and have go at skidpan with the new power. Then you can start to do some basic suspension and brake work (better tyres, sways, springs, slotted rotors, pads, fluids). If you still want more, you can start to look at a bigger turbo (VF34 or perhaps a TD05/18G for a 2.0L), bigger TMIC, injectors and a retune. Happy modding. |
