The camera was reading 70% higher that it should have been? I agree that until proven otherwise, the guy's innocent. But seriously, he was speeding, he should man up and fkn deal with it.

Then why has the police dept suspended him with full pay.

minimum he should be shuffling papers or doing lollie pop crossings at some school.

Thats my only gripe. I could give a shit if he is innocent or guilty, its not going to affect me one little bit.

Like I said before, and just for those who need to read it again.
There are two sides to every story.
What would you do if you were in the same situation and you were adamant that you didn't do what you were being accused of? "Man Up and deal with it?"

I have no idea what train of thought is behind the Police Dept's decisions in relation to their employees.
Whilst it may make you angry that someone is suspended on full pay, that is not the fault of the individual. The employer has made the decision, not the employee.

Yeah, but when it is the WA Police that are his employer it's a little harder to swallow.
Seems like they are trying to distance themselves from him as far as possible without getting sued etc.

Was it a Poliscan (new laser speed camera) or a handheld?

Do you know that the Poliscan has measured a stationary car doing 26kph. Read about it here and here (translated from German)

As GTB Liberty mentioned, if they had 2 timed photos then this would clear up the errors or radar/lidar. They do this in the UK/Europe.

The WA government would not like this as there would have to be permanent marking on the road that would highlight camera locations and maybe reduce their revenue - but it would stop people getting tickets with incorrect speed readings.

I'm not able to comment on this case, however like all situations, there are two sides to a story. I'd imagine that most of you are are basing your opinions on what you have heard & read in the media. Regardless of what you think, you may be surprised by the other side of the story.

For some reason, society seems to have forgotten how the law works: Innocent until PROVEN guilty. It seems that trial by media is very popular and once accused, you're guilty even before you set foot in the court room.

Everyone is entitled to a day in court (even for speeding fines). If you are alledged to have broken the law and you don't think it is correct, you have the legal right to go to court and contest it.

It may be worth waiting for the verdict before passing judgement?

Karl
Hoon laws are guilt with innocence maybe coming later.

Fuck em - if they screw us, then I enjoy watching them being screwed.

It was a hand-held radar. Improper use, lack of servicing/calibration etc can easily distort the reading.

Every speed detection device used by LE can and will get it wrong sometimes.

Let's hope he creates a precedent for any of us to challenge these devices in the future.
