2007 Subaru Liberty service
Hey guys,
I'm currently looking at purchasing a MY07 Subaru Liberty 2.0R with 45,000km on the odo The car is in quite good condition as it looks like its spent most of its days in the garage at home, also has satnav. It is up for sale at 19k which matches the redbook value as seen on Redbook However, due to the owner facing some financial difficulties the car has skipped its 25,000 and 37,500km service so I would just like to know if there are any risks associated with this purchase. The last service was done at 16,042km. Clearly this car would need some much needed attention from S-Technic asap but as I'm not sure what the service schedule for this car includes I can't really gauge what the bill would be after the next service it goes to. Any ideas if this is likely to be an expensive mistake or could it be a good long term purchase? Cheers

Sorry I forgot to mention in original post, owner is well and truly open to offers. If its going to take a 1k or 2k service to get it mechanically sorted out then he clearly has no choice but to accept an offer of 16.5 or 17k.
Cheers.

Its up to your risk aversion. It could all be fine and a good service is all that it needs or it could have caused damage that could now or in the future cost you a little or a lot.
If you are willing to save a couple of K to take on that risk do it. If not, walk away (which I would)

Get the car inspected by your service provider of choice and at the same time get a quote for the service work that needs to be done.
Gives you peace of mind for the purchase as well as additional outlays.

Run a mile, don't even consider it. 30000k's without a service! I'm suprised it even runs.
In my opinion the car is a ticking time bomb, maybe not in the short term, but it reliability will have been compromised for sure. I've seen Subaru engines blow from that sort of thing. If it was still in new car warranty, which it isn't, the warranty on the engine would most likely be void from lack of maintenance.

How long do you intend on keeping?
Willing to bet my left nut that (given a once over) it'll be fine for the next 50,000kms. Pick it up for 16k, drive it till nearly 100k and sell it.

If its last service was at 16000k's that means even the 12500/6month service wasn't done on time, it also means that the car has most likely only been serviced once in its whole life......and once in 4 years
What else hasn't been maintained, tyres?....brakes? seriously, if I was spending 16k or more on a car, any car, I would want to be sure it wasn't going to drop its guts. Whats the point of saving the cost of getting it up to scratch on the purchase price, if you have to spend the money getting it up to date again once you've bought it, your still spending the money aren't you? Might as well get one thats been looked after for a little bit more initial outlay.
