They're not quoting stupidly high, enough to get a 2009 back looking like a 2009 And with the Subaru parts guy there, it makes me confident that it will be all genuine Subaru parts if repaired.
Thanks for letting me know it's being handled, it's a bit tough when I am without a car and waiting to see what happens... Will see if letting them know pans out or not. T&R suggested letting them know I would prefer a write off as they may be a bit more favourable, who knows really.

Trust me.. I know from experience that a bent bonnet and busted headlights/grille and bumper can run to well over $10k when you're using genuine new parts and a good panel shop that knows how to work their assessors.. its the little parts that add up, not the big parts. Small brackets, fasteners and sundries from Subaru Genuine Parts can add up to hundreds and even thousands of dollars very quickly.
For example with yours, rear diff cradle complete assembly is $6k+ on its own going off what a GD one costs new from spare parts. One little mark on the wheels and they'll replace them too, as good panel shops can get mildly damaged parts replaced via insurance. You're looking at $25k+ to get that looking as new.. not to mention the driveline damage if there is any! |

Cheers Balistic, see that's what I thought, when they came in with $10k for parts and & $10k for labour I was a little surprised. I honestly was thinking they would take one look and observe it as a write off...
They still have to add in mechanical damage so I see that $20k shooting right up, especially if it needs a rear diff cradle assembly and more costing $6k+

Right so T&R have come back with $25k to fix everything, cosmetics, mechanics and labour.
The assessor may come out and deem it a write off straight up, who knows. I am interested in getting a second opinon so going to speak with AFM tomorrow for body work but also want to get an actual mechanics specialist to look at that side of things so will transport from AFM following their assessment to a mechanic, just looking for a good one. Can anybody recommend who to use for a mechanics quote? Suspension, diff, gearbox etc. Maximum do my servicing but not too sure if they do insurance quotes. AFM are in Ossie Park so somewhere close to them would be tops but all suggestions welcome. If I do get it repaired, I want it done by the best. Cheers all.

What's the sum insured?
Rosie said that the car was fkd and that's why he didnt take it to my shop. Judging by the $25k plus supp quote it will be knocked on the head if its only insured for $30k.

Also gotta remember that some habib will pay 12g at Pickles/Fowles for it so you add that to the 25g damage & they will be happy to chuck it in the auctions and let someone else go through the hassles of repairs being perfect, there used to be a rule where if there was any panel pushed in more than 300mm from std it had to be written off, not sure if it still applies.

$35k insurance mate, 71% repair cost. Not to sure if this is pushing it. Assessors haven't seen it yet, this could all be worthless as they may write it off straight away.
To be honest, I thought it was too far gone when I saw it, so does Rosie and so did the guy @ RAC holding yard. Then for it to be quoted for repair with them saying yes it does have chassis rail damage but we can straighten it makes me wonder really. They could have just called it a write off straight off the bat... They said they don't want the work as they have enough but now it has me wondering. Hence getting it to AFM and thanks to Balistic, Subaru Ossie Park to quote on. Jase, if you had time I would get it to you and happily pay a couple hundred bucks for a quote but know how busy you are! Quote:
This is why I want the second opionion. Balistic saying $25k for genuine parts to look as new and then $6k+ for 1 part ++ more for suspension and labor that T&R have quoted on and said it is nowhere near that makes me wonder.

take it to AFM, then to Subi Osborne Park for the mechanical. Get your quote. Just had a quick word to my wife, she recons it might be written off with that quote.
All the best! |
