Sounds normal mate when my light comes on its already near the empty level, sometimes below it, there is still 5-10 litres when it comes on

haha my years as a poor uni student taught me to eek every last drop of petrol out of a car. Not that I do that anymore if I can avoid it but it means I know how long they can last on the empty light.
