Default ecu opinons-costs/effectiveness..

hey all i asked the same/similar question about a month ago, still researching, but still unsure...
i have a stock 99wrx and plan on adding 3"tbe, a sti cooler of same yr, pod, and a silicone intake pipe, and bov
thats it.
now my question is, is it possible to get the origonal ecu re-mapped/ tuned to a sufficent enough level to make SOME, if not full use of these mods, as i'd prefer not to fork out a shit load of cash for a link/motec ect....
also what sort of price is a stock ecu re-map worth??

To the best of my knowledge you cant do shit to the factory ECu but i am probly going to be corrected, if u dont want to fork out for link/autronics/motec then things like ecutek 2 would be around 1800 fully tuned and that will be more than sufficient enought o give you loads more power and full effiency out of ur mods

Good Luck, please correct me if im wrong though, still learning

not sure anyone in PERTH can remap ur MY99 ecu competently. try the usual places.
if not, a good middle-ground sort of replacement ecu would be autronic. around 2.5k installed. remember theres nothing to show when you are remapping ur ecu, and when you need to sell it, u pretty much wont get anything for it, cus its specific for ur car. u'll only lose tuning money and a bit of depreciation if u go for another ecu.

just been searching a bit and there are some oppinons saying that the factory ecu will correct itself but to what sort of effect?? roughly how much power will i loose by letting the factory ecu work its magic?? will i gain any??
in the past i've heard the loose term of a comp chip?? dunno what that is but is there an option similar to that, just an add-on accessory to the stock ecu

I think they only change stuff like fuel and are preprogrammed to get more power from stock but wont make your other mods work to their full potential

I don't consider this an ECU but I think SAFC would be your budget option.

Seriously, save up for a full ECU

By the time you buy this, get it installed and tuned (yes you need to get this "tuned" properly. Can DIY but you're messing around with the car's fuel parameters, not wise do it without doing a dyno on it to check the AFR is all good) you'll be able to put half the $ to say a Link (pros and cons).
