I'm going to assume fenders which is ironic as they're the most cosmetic part of a factory body.

Rear wiper. Can be fitted to a WRX, but its a pain for very little gain so
unlikely an STI faker will have one.

^^ This is totally incorrect!!

ALL the GC STI's (maybe 10?) I've looked at had no similarities in the last 3 vin digits.

Plus there were 1000 STI ra coupes alone....Pretty hard to get 1000 out of 3 digits.....

For the record my Version 6 vin ends in 773 yet the build number is 111/400.

Ahh ok that was my understanding of the v5 coupe..

How do v5 sti owners find out the build number out of the 400 that australia got then? or is it a case of they dont as it could be one of the 5000 or so worldwide??

Top lock will remember that for future referance

Yep.
THe last 6 digits are actually just a sequential number of production, so it really means nothing, just the number off the production line. It identifies the particular car as an individual part of a model run but its the 8 letters and numbers before that, that tell you what model it is.

There should be a little number plate on the centre console that says
number ***/400

Just found out version 5's were never officially numbered people just go off the last 3 digits on rexnet v5 count, to try and find them all...
