Default Installing Fire Extinguisher - Questions

This morning/afternoon I'm installing a fire extinguisher in my car as I plan on doing as much track work as possible this year.

In my old MR2 I had my fire extinguisher bolted to the floor of the passenger's foot well. This is where I want to put it in my WRX.

In the MR2 I drilled holes through the floor well and bolted the bracket in with a nut on the underside of the car.

This is what I'm planning on doing with the WRX. My questions is there anything vital in the floor of the footwell that I could drill through if not careful. Wires etc.

(It's a MY99 GC8 for those of you who don't know me).

Thanks in advance,
Scott

I'd be considering a setup like mine. Talk to Russ, he made me up a bracket that you simply bolt to the passenger seat rail. Easily accessible and easily reversible - win/win.

Haha, thanks Mike. But too late.
I, being my usual stupid, stubborn self, just went ahead and did it anyway.
As it turns out there is nothing vital to hit.

Extinguisher is now all bolted in. 10 min job in the end.

Righto, next stop Helmet House to (maybe) buy a new helmet.

Haha Tristan, not quite.

1. Pick up Fire Extinguisher on way home from coffee.
2. Get home decide to install said extinguishing device.
3. Jack car up, look underneath, decide all is clear.
4. Measure up and cut out section of carpet about to start drilling through floor.
5. Get cold feet, worry that there might be something between the floor panels that I don't know about.
6. Start thread.
7. Decide: "Fuck it. I'll drill the holes anyway and see how it goes".
8. Nothing ends up being in the way. Extinguisher installed.
9. See if anyone had answered thread.
10.

You cut out the carpet like that ...for two holes?

Check underbody for potential drill fouling important stuff.

Place bracket, mark holes. I use small sticker on carpet - mark sticker with pen. Place Stanley trimmer make small cross - an X through carpet and sticker. Repeat for second hole. Lift carpet corners just cut. Remark metal using bracket. Drill metal.

Remove stickers. Return carpet to flat, place bolt through carpet and metal, carpet springs up to bolt edge behind bracket, invisible install.

Brought to you from School of Bumpstop ... I consider myself a well versed student. Personally would have made bracket to suit seat bolts - no holes in floor pan.

This also works. Alloy bracket between the front passenger seat bolts. Carpet untouched.
