Default MY12 WRX or MY08 STI?? Advice needed

Hi everyone,

My dream of owning a WRX is almost a reality. I've found two cars $4k apart (MY12 dearer) I just don't know which I should go for! The MY12 is brand new and the STI has 58000km on the clock. What would you buy?

I'm sure the STI probably has been flogged but I know they are made pretty strong. It comes with a 5 year warranty from the dealer. When do they start having problems and what can go wrong?

Both are black hatches.

Thanks in advance

I remember there being issues with ring lands on the 08 STIs, well some of them, surely some one here can elaborate on that?

58000km on a car that is 3 to 4 years old isn't too bad at all!
If you are going to track the car and give it some crap then you might find that the stronger 6 speed gearbox, DCCD and Brembo brakes might persuade you to get the STI over the WRX.

STi.

As an old MY11 owner, I wish I had just bought the STi to start with.. so many more options when you want to start modding it.

Sti ... $4K saved for track days and goodies...58,000 is nothing ..If you buy the rex it will cost $4k more and then to get it to Sti spec, another $10Kmin ...no brainer really..Why buy from a dealer anyway. You will get more for current car selling it privately, possibly up to 100% more and then also pay less for your Sti privately as well. You will probably come out at least $8-10K in front doing both privately depending on value of current car and that more than compensates for a warranty that excludes most parts and labor anyway..... Cheers..

PS...Don't just look at cars in WA.. There are a LOT for sale in Vic and other places and airfares are cheap as chips. We bought our daughters WRX in Vic..flew down and drove it back and still saves $3000 and had a nice road trip...

I had the same thoughts, STI would be my choice, but I wanted the sedan not the hatch, so it would have had to be an MY11 STI sedan, which was out of my price, so WRX it was
