Default How cruise control works in manual car?

I know this sound silly, but was wondering how cruise control works in manual car? Does it change gear for you when increase or decrease the speed using the buttons? What would happen if it doesn't?

I have been driving auto for 6-7 years, and i use cruise control all the time even in 60 zone. But when I picked up my new wrx few months ago, the guy told me to use the cruise control after 1000k only, which I never heard before. Hence I haven't used yet even it's almost 2000k now.

Does manual car's cruise control only works in one gear range, say 80-100 in 5th gear, and if I want to drop down to 60, I need to manually down gear and reset the cruise control?

Thanks guys...

Works only at 40km/h or higher.

As for the 1000km thing, I believe they recommend that you don't use it as it loads up the engine in a certain way that leads to scoring/marking the bores (this is what I've heard, read from several sources and could be correct or incorrect).

The 1000km thing is to stop you sitting on constant rpm & load which can glaze the cylinder bores - which prevents the rings bedding in properly & results in higher oil consumption for the life of the motor.

using cruise off the freeway/highway is lazy/stupid.

It works in every gear. But automatically diaengages as soon as you touch the clutch so as you asked you could drop from 100 to 60 on cruise but you'd be better off changing to fourth and resetting IMO

I use cruise control everywhere too otherwise I'd have no license for rest of my life lol

In a manual if I want to drop any more than just a few kms I Cancel and then Set once at desired speed, more so when I have to change gears etc.

Thanks for everyone's reply. Now I know what to do with it if I need to drop from 100 to 60.

I know it sounds funny to use cruise in 60-70 zone, but it prevents me from accidental spending, I heard stories about getting a fine for exceeding the speed for 3-4 km/h. Especially get off from freeway to a 60-70 highway, I just use the up and down cruise button to drop the speed in my auto car. But of course I only do it when not much cars around (usually after 10pm), otherwise I will so busy with the buttons.

Out of interest do you set your speed by GPS or the cars speedo?

I set mine somewhere in between. About 103 on the dial, 98 on the car's GPS. Been through flashy flashies like this without them going off.
