Ive heard that the American spec STI's have larger cup holder diameter to allow for the larger quantities of fizzy drink you'd get with your fat burger combo

No theres not (i had to go out and check). I have an aftermarket stereo and have kept the original and it doesn't say anything about cup holders anywhere. Unless it's different on other models I wouldn't have a clue.

Got some more valuable info:

Centre cup holder holds anything with a stubby holder brilliant! Rally style and all!
Also, dash cup holder is useless with large mackers cups, go for medium! They r perfect!

the 05 sti double cup holder in centre console is brilliant.. drink mates beer on way home without him knowing.. kick him out at his crib and you have yours full for the rest of trip home

and i have 2 stubbie coolers cut down that sit there constantly to stop shit turning into missiles in car.. and stops scratches and battery acid(coke) being stuck in there..

btw there is a bottle opener under the drivers side dash for those annoying Crownies in every WRX. Saved my teeth heaps! Did anyone order the center console "Drinks Chiller Option"?
