I said car mods. Like the ones listed but the 17mm hex drives. Work perfectly. Cost $45 delivered.

All wheel nuts will have problems if you dont use a tq wrench. I always tq my wheel nuts.

And it had to do with the wheel nuts or the fact your mate didnt tq his wheel nuts up properly?

Some shops dont tq wheels....

I know my mechanic does but since i'm anal sometimes i check them afterwards anyway....

But Russ has it right...as long as the taper fits the wheel and it's been tq-ed properly...that is the main thing.

I pretty rarely get involved in any kind of banter like this, but while I agree that high quality comes at a price, price doesn't always constitute better quality. As Teejay amusing pointed out the first complaint we'll most likely hear is that the paint has come off. Back in the early days when I still had my race car there were times when we may have put wheel nuts on the car that were old and most likely cheap (lost nuts, fucked threads, etc), and the combination of having five attachment points stopped the failure of a wheel 'falling off'. I have this discussion with people in other fields away from automobiles where people are adamant that because something is a quarter of the price it's going to fail and you're going to die, and it simply is not the case. I think some people get a bit carried away at times.

Absolutely Kid and Astralex! Im a machinist so know a bit about metals. I can tell you that the "cheap" wheel nuts that I bought for $45 are still a very nice ali. Duke Drifter knows 1 person who was clearly stupid and had a wheel fall off. Yet still believes it was purely the wheel nuts fault therefore all cheap wheel nuts are crap.

Yeah I'm not saying that people should buy $200 wheel nuts either, but what I'm saying is, buy something thats a known quantity.. thus the KKR recommendation.

If you have found good ones that work for $45, then he could probably safely try those.
