Default 08/09 STI vs 11/12 WRX

I know I'm not a frequent poster but have been having some trouble finding details on which would be a better purchase for the money.

I'm not really looking to spend anymore then 40k, I've looked at both models in the flesh really the same inside and out.

If you were going to buy either of the above which would you go?

Cheers guys!

Good to know, I've been looking and I can get a STI Spec R in decent condition with 80000 roughly for mid 30's.

I sold my my10 wrx (first owner), bought a 08 sti with 20000km last April. Worth every penny, everything is a bit better. Just avoid any sti that has been moded. Always buy from a mature driver. This gen's sti tend to has piston ring failure. I saw a guys bought one from eastern state not knowing it was heavily moded, and mods were removed before selling, he end up paying a huge bill for engine rebuild...

I'd go for an 09/10 sti if you could get one. I'd steer clear of the 08's.

Agreed with impresiv don't go for 08 as prone to failure from factory and yes Sti beats wrx in every category

STI everyday.

As said, avoid the 08 STI's or look to see if Subaru have addressed the piston ring issues they had through the previous owner/service history etc. That or get ready for a nice expensive rebuild.

08-10 stis had the piston problem. the issue was somewhat resolved when subaru released a new ecu reflash to stop the motor for going lean and eating a ringland
