Having recently gone through this process, recommend you also keep an eye out for cars over east.
Some forums to browse include rexnet.com.au and wrx.com.au Look for cars from Melbourne or Sydney as transport costs will only be about $1200 - $1400. QLD is prohibitively expensive...upwards of $2K. Cars are significantly cheaper over there and there are a lot more to choose from. Of course get it checked out yadda yadda if buying privately. To give you an example I pulled the pin at the last minute on a 2011 premium sedan for $28K

Thanks Guys
Good points there. Shouldn't be too major a job getting that sound back down to acceptable. Even happy to lose a horse or 2. (But not more) Costs would be understandable. Might even find someone wanting to upgrade their stock for a bit more flow + a swap... Cheers!

Howdy All
After 3 months of looking for 09/10s, having several checked by the S-Technic Boys, and having them turn up well hidden repaired major collisions, I was in the right place at the right time to grab a nice 2011 Hatch. Checked out well. Jumped at it. Very Happy. Thanks all for your suggestions and advice, and thanks to S-Technic. You guys saved me a lot of long term drama. Happy Camper here...

First order of business was a good set of tyres (Kumho KU-36) and a hot tune from All-Star.
Very Happy with both Will sit and consider the next move for a while...
