Hi All,

During my search for a new car I've come across this ad (2005 Subaru Impreza Sedan | Cars, Vans & Utes | Gumtree Australia Casey Area - Berwick) and spoken to the owner. He has sent me copies of the rego papers and the most recent service invoices. It certainly looks good in the pictures and It was looking to be a perfect buy until I noticed that the rego numbers didn't match up.

I cautiously did a check on the PPSR website and found the car was written off due to flood/storm damage May last year.

I'm not writing this post to retaliate, just to let others know not to buy this vehicle. Happy to send a copy of the report if anyone is interested.

If it was written off, could it not just have been an economic writeoff? so a Panel beater could have bought it, replaced some panels, and sold it on?
I don't see this as a reason not to buy it, but it would be a pretty handy bit of knowledge during price negotiations.

Flood/storm damage as the OP said. May seem fine now, but electrical gremlins due to being soaked through etc.

EDIT: Fish in the radiator too. I hate that.

was the car just a write off or was it an inspected write off on ppsr cert? if its an inspected write off it should be fine.. but pretty dodgy with different rego plates tho..
