Default The ever changing AWKW issue

Having just recently gotten back into the WRX scene, i have noticed something quite odd.

In late 99, early 2000s, a good stock WRX (MY99) made about 92kw @ the wheels. A good WRX STi V6 made around 125kw @ wheels. I also remember an article from a magazine stating that a 200 awkw WRX had run a 11.4 second quarter mile time.
The APS WRX also made 148awkw and ran 175kph terminal speed (only with 148awkw)

Fast forward 13 years.

how easy is it to get 170awkw + out of a wrx (even GC8) wrx's these days, with 200awkw GC8 STi's being quite common.

My question is, are dyno numbers being slowly inflated over time? Cause similar mods today are making much more numbers than similar mods 13 years ago.

To get 200awkw out of a WRX 13 years ago required a 2.2L stroker and a big turbo, and front mount. A simple computer, exhaust and tune is nearly enough to get you there these days.

What gives?

Maybe not inflating, but DYNO's are more accurate and being able to take into account more variables and compensate for them. Different tuning software and ability would also account for more power for less mods...

Turbos are more effecient

ECU's are much more defined

Injectors easier to control

More 98 available - remember back in GC8 days you were using 95 Ron.

Tuning has come a loooooooooong way.

I remember in 03/04 if you had a R33 and were making close to 300hp you HAD to budget for forged pistons and rods. Now guys make 500 on stock internals and go for 50 000km without an issue.

I believe the dyno numbers have crept up since the late 90's.

We have 200 wheel KW cars still only cracking 13 second 1/4 miles.

Different tuning software i understand but my stock 99 WRX with just the exhaust showed 175hp on a hub dyno. That's a lot more than 130hp that the OP said. How does that work

Hubs allow for about 5% more power.

the rest would be the exhaust - more flow and it bumps the boost also by being able to flow.

I reckon a 200kw @ the wheels GC8 should be able to crack an easy 12.

The day after I bought my first RS it did a 13.2 with 220hp and no idea how to launch etc (2.0 60 footers anyone) so 40hp more in basically the same car should easily see that time come down.
