Default Spare wheel compartment

Just a quick question regarding the spare wheel - Does anyone know if a full size wheel will fit in the boot space compartment that currently houses that horrible thin thing?

Try your local Subaru dealer. I'm not sure if this conversion is available for your model but I know for the G3 WRX/STI's you can get thicker polystyrene inserts that sit under the boot liner. They effectively raise the height of the liner so a wider wheel can sit under it. The only drawback is you will lose some boot space. Failing that you could try making something similar, so long as the full size wheel diameter fits the wheel space.

The wheel will fit width/length wise, but not height wise (I.e it will fit into the wheel space but the boot liner will no longer sit plush and will be raised on the wheel).

Up to you if you're happy to leave it like that, or do what Nick suggested above and getting foam inserts to rise the whole boot liner.

Hey Phillip,
From memory I was quoted $150 from Subi dealer to do supply/fitment. If you decide to do it yourself get some cheap shit from Clarke rubber and have a crack. Just try to secure the new wheel properly with the factory screw clamp...

What size tyre is on the rim? as above I can't get a 235X45x17 to fit into the wheel well of our MY06, ignoring the height.

Using a tyre calculator their only approx 5mm wider radius (each side), ie 10mm in diameter.

17 inch rim will not fit in wheel well properly and you will loose a considerable amount of room in the boot having the tire there. I use the wheel well for tool storage and the spare just sits in the boot.
