Suspicions may have proven correct.
So I bought this perfect version 6 sti, and after about 2 weeks of owning it, i had suspicions that the engine had been swapped. Certain cables were unplugged etc. I didnt care too much because the car ran beautifully.
I had the car (which has walbro fuel pump, 3" hitech TBE, and an autronic ECU) dyno tuned, and it came up with 155awkw. I found this strange, as other cars with similar mods are pushing 170awkw + So i decided to check the engine number. The number on the motor is 557409. According to my rego papers, and service manual, it should be 723342. So the motor has been swapped. The other thing is, I have suspicions this is only a EJ205 motor, (It has EJ20) stamped on it. This would explain the lack of power. It does have the STi cooler and VF 28 on it. If anyone can tell me what kind of motor the number 557409 belongs to, ide be real happy. Just trying to determin if its a EJ205, or EJ207 Pictures are attached.

Think you're right, the 5th digit should be a 7 if it's an STi block.

just rung the previous owner, he owned up and told me it did have an engine swap. It was from a japanese V6 Sti.
Is there any differences between the aus and jap engine

My understanding (correct me if I'm wrong, anyone!) is that all STI's pre-Bugeye had the EJ205, and the Japanese spec STI's ran 17.5 PSI boost vs 16 PSI for Australian delivered ones.

The version 6 STIs were still 207s but were open deck not semi-closed deck like the version 7 onwards from what I understand.

Open deck but had forged pistons? Is that right?
Check the timing belt cover, there is usually a sticker there, what does it say? |
