i was just wondering what they are needed for? (as in, why are the cars built with these if they function better without them?)

they channel the air over the injector to better atomise the fuel.

and they do produce cars without them... ie the sti :)

any particular reason it differs between the rex and sti?

is it more expensive to build them without tumblers?
