It may be overkill but I like the idea of taking their photo if they want a test drive. You can always delete it afterwards if all goes well. If they object you can always refuse.

Sorry to semi hijack, what's the deal with selling a car with personalized plates? Let's say the new owner wants to keep them - what is the process?

Depending on the plate different rules apply. With some of them because you own them, you have to either sell or transfer them to the new owner. They are not automatically transferred when you sell the car. Some cannot be transferred at all.
