Default Version VI Sti engine buildp

Gday people.
My trusted Version 6 STi has racked up 170,000kms today. I have been putting a lot of money aside over the last 12 months for an engine build.
I have 10k to spend on a motor and I have a few questions.
Should I keep the original EJ207 and have it rebuilt, or should I source a newer semi closed deck block?
I am aiming for around 320 - 330whp from the motor.
Can anyone with some greater EJ technical knowledge than mine tell me if 10k is going to cover a motor like that, or should I continue saving. I will also be putting some extra money away for a 6 speed conversion, which I have been quoted 6k for.

Regards

What about adding dowels to your original block? Pm dazdavies as this is a pic of a motor he built and i wouldnt have any idea about whats involved. But could be an option worth looking into.

For your power goals your current block will be fine. A semi closed deck block is always nice to have but not essential in this case.

Decent rods, decent pistons and good head studs are a must though.

Just don't go overboard with ARP 625's - they simply aren't needed for a street car.

I can see you're looking for answers, and here I am asking a question I apologise.

Isn't the EJ207 block semi closed?

The Version 5/Version 6 were open deck, from GD on they were semi closed.
Pretty sure the one that found it's way into your car was a semi closed GD block.

I would get a new semi closed block with forged pistons, rods etc etc and a 6 speed if you're gonna keep this car for a long while. It will get to a point when you will get bored of the car and keep modding and modding and so you will need the extra assurance that you won't break anything...

Honestly, go see Mike at Melville Subaru. He can get short block 207's for a stupid price. Built by ninjas at subaru. Will hold your power rating easy!

Then do some cams and headstuds, gasket kit and bolt it back together and get a tune with a new ECU. Should all be able to do it for under & grand. Then thats 3 grand for 6 speed conversion!
