nissan rom flashing is a WORLD of difference to the subaru stuff

most of the nissan gear, s13, s14, s15,r32 gts and gt-r, r34 gts, 300 zed, ceffiro, anything with an rb20, and even stuff vh41 equipped are based on eeprom ecu's, add in a daughter board, and voila, full tuneable computer...

the subaru stuff, with the exception of 94/95/96 models are all flash rom ecu's, which you can't daughter board, however people have unlocked the code so they can rewrite it..

all ecutek is, is a fucking expensive rom re flash..

I think the $700 saving for not paying licensing fees should be passed onto the customer.
AVO cost for a full custom reflash tuned on the dyno is $795 plus the dyno time.

License fee is just a PR way of dressing up "profit" - the only people entitled to charge any form of licence fee is Denso/Subaru. Ecutek's licence fee is nothing more than a 'hacking fee'. As for AVO and anyone else's fee - call it what it is - "profit".

Not if they don't own the software.

The software thats freely available, i think you will find was never for the purpose of someone making money on it.

Fair enough, you can charge for the use of the Dyno, and the Tuners fee. But to charge for the software is not on, when they got it for free.

Ecutek reflash custom tune = $1500 plus dyno/tuning time.
AVO reflash custom tune = $795 plus dyno/tuning time.

If you feel better paying an extra $705 to Ecutek for being the 1st party to hack into Subaru's ecu, go for it!
