I'm pretty sure BOV are considered illegal, and therefore if you try to make a claim, they'll come back to bite your ass and said "insurance void due to illegal mods"....well....at least that is what I was told when I spoke to someone at HBF last year.
Which is why I went with Just Cars. Insured you regardless, provided that you told them what mods you have. |

RAC over 93% satisfaction on last survey for claims. As for better deals you may pay less at the front end....but check out your excess's when you go to claim....And any guarantee on WORKMANSHIP when your cars repaired?
Insurance is like any industry....sure you can buy a Teac....but would you rather have a Sony??

99% of the time generic insurance companies like RAC, GIO, SGIO will insure stock cars and cars with MILD modifications - wheels, suspension and about $800 worth of stereo gear. You might be lucky that they will insure more via a valuation but it will cost more to do so. Once you get into more more mods like Bodykits, serious stereo equipment, engine mods - they don't want to know about it...
Special insurance companies like Shannons or Just car have allowed for these mods. |

RAC have been happy to insure my stereo ($3000) and mild mods (3" TBE, bits n pieces), just show them the receipts and they are happy at the cost...base model price is still based on redbook (which dropped a shiteload this year for GC8's) but I'm still happy with the overall price because the mods are at full cost (no depreciation).
Difficult if you bought a modded car with no receipts tho. Unfortunately they don't like some mods....crazy size wheels, turbo's and ecu's...when I've asked them before, but we'll see again when I look at getting these.

get a paid evaluation done by Shannons, HBF wanted the same for my car. i'm yet to do it, but shannons apparently will take mods, uniqueness etc into account for the 'rea' value of the car. Dealers can do a paid evaluation, but only for the 'market' value...
