Safe to say that both RAC and Shannons are the top 2 for our cars depending on your needs and features you want. Some of the Shannons features RAC doesn't offer and same with RAC having some that don't exist at Shannons.

One I can think of from when I was choosing between them was unlimited windscreen/window replacement that RAC gives standard as well as unlimited days car hire...Shannons was 1 windscreen per year and 1 glass repair.
Shannons though had a much higher limit of what you could insure your car for as it caters for enthusiast and older cars whereas RAC only allows you a certain % over market value.

edit: That was in January last year, not sure if Shannons changed since. Having unlimited glass is a better feature to have for a daily driven car, if track car or occassional use then wouldn't matter. There were a few more feature differences like key recoding I think, but can't really remember all of them.

How many windscreens do you smash a year lol

RAC wouldn't go above a certain agreed value. Nor do they like insuring the older models. OR cars with heavy mods

Funny you ask...cracked 2 or 3 last year lol, one on a subie cruise, others highway driving.

RAC seems to underwrite on a case by case for modded cars, they always put you on hold to get the underwriters to approve. Some they don't like, and some they insure no problems, but old cars they say no.

Had a number of friends with AAMI who have made claims, had nothing but hassles along the way and rework required at least once when the car was ready for collection.

This was both for performance oriented and mum & dad type cars.

They have all left and gone to RAC/SGIO/QBE.

Ah ok fairo, my dad works in the smash repair industry and told AAMI where I would be taking my car to be repaired, because he knows which ones are their preferred repairers and they said that was fine and the work was great.

Edit: I really sparked a fire with my comment.

Just got my old policy updated, told them all my mods, including coilover, brakeline, chasis bushing, wider rims. They charged me $150 more for having high risk vehicle to stealing, which bring my annual fee to 1680 with agreed value of 45000.

Does anyone come across this before? Or is it because so many sports car being stolen recently?

Should ask to see what discount they can provide if your car has the keypad enabled?
