Coilovers Plus Insurance Voiding?
I have heard that coilovers are illegal so i was wondering what your insurance would say if you had a crash (being your fault) even though it had nothing to do with the fact you have coilovers. Say you run up the back of someone because they slam the brakes on and you where too close. Can they say," ah your car wasnt road worthy so therefore your insurance is void. Pay for that new beamers repairs yourself".
Cheers Russ

declare on insurance policy.
Anything not declared on policy they can essentially turn around and say pay it yourself. |

As far as legality in the first place goes, I think it has something to do with the fact you can lower your car to the bumpstops and get a canary and then jack it back up and pass a pit inspection. then obviously get the all clear and go and dump it again. There are rules regarding modifying the range of suspension travel however. Anything less than factory for example. You could probably blame any laws that have been passed on bogans that gas axe their standard springs

check with the DPI to make sure they are illegal. i would say it would be the ride height being the main problem and not the coilovers. as long as the car is over 100mm i think(someone correct me if im wrong)
most insurers will not accept any risks that do not conform with DPI regulations. if they are not legal then you will be fine. just have them listed on the policy as an accessory. With turbo vehicles most insurance companies are more worried about performance enhance mods and not so much cosmetic. i would say coilovers would come under cosmetic mods. i wouldnt think that the assesors would be looking for the coilovers when assessing the damage who is your insurer?

100mm minimum clearance (Excluding wheels/tyres) is correct. Also the lower edge of the headlights must not be closer than 500mm from level ground, hence why driving with fog lights on attracts a fine.
Just Car will cover you but good luck getting prompt payment from them. Just ask Meg aka megs wrx
