Can still get your car insured with Shannon's as long as you are the only driver. Anyone not listed on the policy will not be covered (as you are under 25). I got a quote through them recently which was extremely competitive, even with my younger girlfiend also listed on the policy (she's just turned 20). Give them a call!

I rang Shannon's for a quote on my Betty last year (wanting to switch from SGIO), and they said that they wouldn't insure my car because it is kept in a carport as opposed to garage!

^^^Yep that's true, carport is basically having it outside as
it's in plain veiw, not secure and not fully protected from weather
which increases the risk of theft and damage greatly.

Depends on the type of carport. An enclosed carport with rollerdoor they will generally insure. I reckon suburb plays a part of that decision.....ie carport in peppermint grove i am sure they would overlook.

The whole point of the thread was so that, incase someone else was in a similar situation they could understand it a bit better.

I can afford the car, that's not a problem, but someone else might not be so lucky.
you financed it = could not afford it
Try and up your excess for the first year with just car.
Will cost a fuckton of money when you crash which will be good motivation to drive sensibly. after this your insurance premiums should be reduced somewhat.
Also forget modifying it if your with sgio, rac etc. if you tell them they won't insure you, if you dont tell them they will take your 3.2k and then tell you to fuck off

... I have my STI insured for myself AND the girlfriend as driver's and I don't think it HAS to be in a garage?

I actually can't remember... I was also told a fib before I got it insured with them that you're meant to be over 25 before you could get insurance with them. Whoever tells you that is full of crap, I'm 22.

Regarding the title of the thread, I thought you weren't allowed to take delivery of the car unless you could prove it was insured before it left the showroom floor? Regardless of whether or not you are on P's I don't think it should matter?

A lot depends on what type of car and where you live, my Liberty with a list of mods a mile long can be outside but my WRX, virtually stock has to be in the garage even though the Lib has much more power and was insured for more......before the hail that is lol. That's with Shannons too.
