i budgeted the 2.5k i got off the price for the gearbox it may only be the front diff or CV even as the gearbox was installed this year...if it is the CV i think 10k is a good price for this...

it was hard finding such a good condition sportswagon for that price..

so yes for 10k i think i got a good buy..i know there was the gearbox problem, i called s technic and then i took the cost of the gearbox off what the car was costing...

and after working offshore for two years no need to save up... if ive made a mistake with how much i budgeted i will pay the extra..feel bad..then enjoy my new car

Well if you're happy with the price you paid considering you will have to get the gearbox/CV/Diff or whatever is wrong with it fixed, then that is fine

If you want a new gearbox, call Subaru and ask them their cost.

All the replacement boxes out there are 2nd hand units. I would be guessing a 5 speed replacement could cost up to $3k. If you have spare coin, change the box out to the far superior and stronger 6 speed unit. But this will cost $6-10k depending on what you need.

Yep i got all the prices from stechnic,

I dont need the 6 speed box as the car is staying how it is and i dont drive them flat out, same as all cars...owned 3 rx7's and never have a done a burnout/skid in my life..

I did think about a brand new 5 speed however i will just have to wait to see what stechnic diagnose the fault to be.

How much have the quoted you for a second 5 speed box?

they werent 100% on the price yet but fitted for a low k's second hand box were looking around 2k.

Ill just take the car in and it may be just a small part has let go. Who knows...

Picking it up this afternoon, gotta drive it home so im going to avoid the highways as the noise is worse the faster you travel (hence i thought may be on the wheel side of things through the diff as opposed to the engine side of the gearbox).

Ill just take the <60km streets. It will then live at my house until i drive it to maddington on tuesday to stechnic

I would put it on a tow truck home and to dougs.
