Hi everyone, am very keen to learn about the WRX and hopefully get put on the right track to buying one to race. I have raced dirt for a number of years moved away from it and since being involved with TARGA West as Liaison to the event I am very keen to get involved to race.

So I will be asking lots of questions along the way they are a great car both on the road and track.

Welcome mate, have a look in the For Sales. There is a Jap Spec WRX for sale for 2.5k (not currently running but has most parts). Apparently no VIN plates either.. but cannot confirm. Might be ok for a cheap start to a project car but I'm not one to know about that :P

Best speak to S-Technic, Doug has a few WRX Rally Cars now. He can point you in the right direction with great advice.

There is a lot of internet heroes around here at the moment, but if you are serious and ignore them, there is a wealth of information.

What era of car are you looking at getting? I'm sure Brendon and Steve can give you some info if you are looking at a GC8. As above Doug at STechnic would be someone to speak to, along with MMS, ASG and Racetorque.

If I was looking at doing a targa car, I'd probably look to see if an early GD fits early modern. Gets you the benefits of the 6 speed box etc etc.

Or if you want to win, Evo 6.5/7
