Default 02 Blue Bugeye

Hey Team,

I've been lurking for a bit and figured i'd better introduce myself.

Recently bought a blue 02 bugeye with 112,000 KMS on it. I've previously owned a couple of MR2s that I probably spent too much money on, and swore I would just use this as a daily drive and not mod it....that changed after about a week of owning it.

I jumped on this forum and had a read and decided I'd go down to Evolution R for some work.

Anyway Mao sorted me out well. for $1100 I got an engine tune and boost controller and had the catted up pipe replaced - raising power from 160whp to 195whp and a lot more torque through the mid range. For another ~$2300 I got some STD coilovers, sway bars, front strut brace and endlinks. I went with the 6kg spings up front and 4kg at the rear, softer than usual but I'm glad because it's still plenty stiff.

This forum provided a wealth of info when deciding on what to spend my cash on for mods. I now I have a much more spritely and enjoyable ride, which I really enjoy fanging around in on the weekends. Pic attached from the day i picked her up from the very dodgy dealership in Vic Park. It still looks the same except it's a bit lower now.

Clean bug mate. Good to see you addressing the handling as well as power. On the power figure: 195HP on the stock exhaust and downpipe?

how much boost are you running? >1.3bar?

That is a very low figure for their hub dyno. That is about 145kw. Something isn't right.

Yeah stock down pipe and exhaust, boost peaks at 15psi then tapers to about 14 by redline

I dont think that's too far off the mark? Not sure how their dyno reads though.

Different eras but I'm only making 210hp with exhaust and tune on my 08 wrx, less boost though

On my car evo r dyno reads low compared to mms and rt, but asg is lowest I think. Get x force tbe and u will be even happier.

My last car had a 3" exhaust, decided I would stay quiet with this one (at least for a while anyway!)

The dyno testing was done on a very hot summer day, so its potentially reading a bit lower than usual, but honestly I'm not that phased by the numbers. The car pulls well and with the suspension I can carry good speed through corners, it feels like about the right amount of power for street use, and my fuel efficiency is still pretty decent.

can always go with a 3" oval. that way you get the speed and your ears won't bleed. or you can go varex like me.
