Smile Subie noobie drag time updates

Hello all...

Well its been quite a while since my first time out drag racing..

http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/introduc...-v5-v6-v7.html

The first time out i ran a 12.985 with a stock version 5 Power Fc and 3' TBE

since that time i have done the following mods..

Version 5 2 door st

CURRENT MODS

X Force 3' TBE decatted front and rear (rear cat gutted is oval
(early) not round shape (later model)
Apexi PFC ECU
Equilibrium tuning cross pipe (from USA)
Walboro fuel pump
3 port boost controller (manual)
PW TMIC and water spray (bunning spec)
VF34P18 TURBO running 21-23psi stock wastegate and spring
stock sti 440 injectors (100% duty cycle)
Type RA Headers
Gearbox standard ratios STOCK 4.44
stock airbox and inlet pipe (resonectomy done)

CAR JUST RAN 12.5 @111.2 MPH
60' 1.788
330 5.231
1/8 8.033
MPH 85.81
Km/hr 138.11
1000 10.465
1/4 12.503
MPH 111.22

BUT NOW I GOT THE FEVER...

My plan is to try and crack 11s with a VF34/P20 combo.. FULL STREET TRIM
So any GURUS out there willing to help a novice any input is greatly appreciated..

The following has been suggested to me..

1. AVO Silicon intake
2. Deutschwerks 1000cc side feed injectors
3. P20 housing (ported for boost creep)
4. Z32 MAF upgrade.
5. Phenolic spacers 3mm for inlet manifold
5. Apexi AVC-R? (does it help with turbo lag and offer an advantage
over my 3 port manual boost controller?)
6. Throttle body coolant bypass mod
7. Heat wrap or ceramic coat headers, cross pipe , up pipe , downpipe
and most of TBE? (decreased lag?)

The question is ...

Does anyone recommend the above mods ? (or any other mods)

And is this achievable on 100 RON ?

or do i need E85?

regards pk

p20 will be slower (laggier) on a stock v5 ej207 because you don't have long duration cams.

how many km on your motor?

Why aren't you using the PFC's in-built boost controller????

Hi rossco thanks for all your replies my friend..

The motor has 40k on it and it's pretty much a virgin..
Yes the p20 I'm told will be lagierr but this will be offset by the following..

E85 allowing more timing.
Heat wrapping the exhaust or ceramic coating to reduce lag time.
Electronic boot controller ( I'm told that's the beauty of the apexi AVCR)

So yes P 20 will be lagier but I have to increase the MPH some how unless there is a better solution..

I had no idea the power fc comes with an electronic boost controller.. How does it compare to the Apexi AVCR , how much is it and where can I get one..

Regards pk

When i had my V5 STI i ran 12.2 @110mph with the stock VF28, TBE, Intake, ASG Tuned. 200awkw

I think for your 11's VF34/P20 + Headers + Injectors and E85 should see you well into an 11 second. Especially with the lightness of the car. You have a great car and by the sounds of it in great condition with a 40km motor

This was one night out with 270awhp

12.2 @110mph !! ON A STOCK vf28 !!

man thats A SUPER AWESOME EFFORT!!
THATS GOTTA BE ALMOST A WORLD RECORD FOR A STOCK V5!!

YOU GOTTA LOVE THESE CARS!!! ARENT THEY JUST THE BEST !!!

thanks for the video... it brought a smile to my face esp with the music in the background..

what was the 60 foot i bet it was 1.6x something to run that time..
Stock gearbox?
what ratios?
Full street trim??

So do i stick with the stock VF 34 and E85 or go P20 + 100RON to get the MPH up..

regards pk

The boost controller is already built into your powerfc!

The powerfc uses all of the factory boost control hardware, map sensor, wastegate solenoid etc.

P.s what power are you making at the moment @1.4 bar?

Wind up the boost to wake up your vf34/p18 - 1.6 bar will get it moving (re-tune to suit more boost).

Thanks Mate!

They are awesome cars mate. When you drive it, the feel is just raw performance and no bs!

Gearbox was a PPG Straightcut 1st-4th. Full street trim (even the spare) ratio 4.11's. From memory a very low 1.7

Honestly i'd keep the package you have now and add a P20 housing with E85 and larger injectors. E85/ P20 combo should get your mph up to 115-117.

Now that makes your time even better!! 1.7x 60 footer

You mentioneg the ppg.straight cut dogbox
Im thinking of going that route.
What ratios 1st 2nd 3rd etc did you run.
did you get the diff upgrade with it.
Does it actually shift faster than a synchro box..?? gain time down 1/4 mile.

Lastly the only thing that turns me off is the maintenence issue...
did you suffer any premature wear or need a rebuild..?

my car is a weekend warrior so i dont mind having a dog box..

regards pk

Pretty much the stock box with upgraded gear set and shaft. I changed the ratio from 4.44 to 4.11's for the rear diff and that helped the top end for sure. I wouldn't say faster shifting but certainly made a bulletproof package. Flatfoot shifting is where times are decreased at the drags, i have tried various techniques and always come back to the same shifting technique.
