No you don't as long as the mechanic gets the flywheel machined and installs the right clutch. Go with an organic clutch IMO.
Now, I've never had to purchase a clutch for my MY99 WRX before, it was changed by the previous owner. So I've been lucky up until now. Someone else should be able to recommend a good brand clutch though.

Go for a exedy or xtreme heavy duty clutch mate. I'm currently using a xtreme HD clutch and its on the lighter side of clutches.. i'll be swapping to exedy next clutch change. Both great clutches ! exedy just seems to feel a little heavier IMO.
for plugs get a set of NGK platinum plugs.. little pricey but totally worth it! |

1) $1567 Clutch replaced by a 'cindus' (sadly i've googled what cindus is and i can't find anything on it) clutch kit including Flywheel machining 2) $1347 Clutch replaced by a standard clutch kit not including Flywheel machining Still awaiting a couple more response in regards to other quotes. Can't wait to get this done.... |

Got this done today, with the clutch change, driving is so much different. Shuddering is gone...
Weird though, after the clutch change, my blow off valve sound (you know that distinctive Pfft at the sound of the gear change) is completely gone, there is also a slight more induction noises all over the place (the experts noticed it too when test driving, driving home, I noticed it as well)......... have emailed them, hopefully it was just something that they forgotten to tighten or something when putting it all back together. |

The vacuum line is not connected to the blow off valve

Okie, now some plug time! The shop that did my clutch was MMS in Kewdale. Dean was a top guy and Daniel was the mechanic that was doing the clutch in the car. Workmanship second to none, with the issue of the blow off valve came in this afternoon and it was no trouble at all for Daniel to come out and rectify it, now it goes Pfft pfft again. Overall, it was such a pleasant experience, that I have decided to bring it to them for all my Subaru needs moving forward....
What I've done so far to the GC8: - Oil and Filter service with initial inspection - Coil pack, leads and plugs replaced - New Oil catch can (the old one burst)... (at least the oil level gauge did) - Aligned all my bumpers (previous owner did not clip any of the bumpers properly) - New clutch by MMS (also did some other work there) Next to come: - My next service will/ should be with MMS - Will look at getting the car finally tuned properly (was given an indicative initial price - a bit more expensive than I thought) to see if it can run better. Daniel whilst working on my car pointed out that the car has a bigger turbo in it but was running on low boost, so hopefully can squeeze some more boost in it.... Now I REALLY love my rex, looking back at the first thread, I couldn't believe the turnaround. Thanks again guys! |
