Default Howdy.... and help! :)

Howdy guys, I am a new member to the WRX scene. Bought myself a gumtree WRX GC8 1999 (200k) that SEEMS to be good and clean with a few mods and was sold. Owner said he was a mechanic and that he took care of it, etc, but now I am doubting it more than ever.

Now, after only a week, things seems to be wrong, there are leaks in places I don't know and it feels very underpowered and just doesn't feel right. I don't know what to do here. Should I count my loses and sell (or shudder scrap), or should I book it in into one of the Subi specialist to get it looked at, diagnosed, tuned and just get it to be reliable.

I am such a sad camper at the moment as I was so happy during the first few days of ownership that this is gutting me deep. Do you guys have any recommendation on who I should take it to get it done as well as an opinion on what I should do next. Selling it as scrap metal is an option too I suppose...

Sigh, buyer beware and I was blinded by the prospect of Rex ownership that I think I bought with my heart and not my head. I need help..... Sigh, I just fear I have to sell my soul (on top of what I have already done) to fix it....

Personally I wouldn't touch a turbo car with 200k kms. I would book it into stechnic and get a thorough look over then see if it's worth fixing or selling.

A well maintained, well looked after Subaru would be fine with over 200k on it. There are many examples of this.

When i mean maintained, i am talking about fairly meticulously though, as when you get to the 200k mark, as a lot of things begin to need replacing & maintenance outside of the regular oil changes, timing belts etc.

Don't get too far ahead of yourself bud. Just get it into stechnic. Then go from there, might be an easy fix.

Always pre-purchase inspect a vehicle. Despite this advice being worth null in hindsight, take it to a subaru specialist for a look over (s-technics, maximum motorsport, race torque etc..).

Could be a trivial problem, easy fix and the like. A well maintained wrx can last a long time.

Also, maybe someone knows about the "lemon laws" applying to personal sales?

Thanks for all the great advise guys. I have used a mechanic ive known for ages. Hes coming to have a look at it for me on Monday and will diagnose it. When i know what i am up against will then take it to one of the specialist mechanics mentioned above. Man, i am crossing my fingers.... sleepless nights ...
