Losing Western Range is the saddest part. Personally I think it was the addition of Blue Plains that broke the straw in the camels back so to speak - there was no protests that made the media prior to the Blue Plains deal.

Re: street tyres and drivers, Kim Ledger, Al McRae and Paul Summers were spoken to; I know Ben Searcy and Stevie knew nothing about it.

The issue with the roads is not the tyres, its the weight of the cars; the road generally isnt getting torn up in the bends or on the exits of corners, its the braking areas that get torn apart the most; this is where most of the damage of the cars come from aswell. I've said to Dieter that if you don't have a GTR now, its all over, there is absolutely no chance of staying within cooee of them. Steve J ran the R888's in 20" at Buller, he said he felt that the tyres didn't really have more grip than the Dunlops he's run for the most part but said they felt more consistent for longer. *shrug*

And regarding tyres; I think you'll find that there won't be a "the tyre must be a treadwear rating of xxx and a temp rating of xxx", I think there'll be a list of banned tyres of which that will include all R comps etc.

I know Dieter, Bob and Ross are looking for alternative roads... be interesting to see what they find! I reckon they should try and get Katrine Road, Mayo Rd etc

Yep, spot on Franzie...talk amongst the Chittering locals is that it was the Blue Plains mob who torpedoed the whole deal. I know for a fact that the vast majority of people living in the Lower Chittering area (including Maryville) are supporters of Targa West. It's just another example of the whingeing minority getting their way in WA!
But if they can get some of the roads around Northam it would be good...I remember doing Katrine Rd a couple of times some years ago in the Classic Rally...in both directions...very fast, especially one year in pouring rain with "those" Silverstone R Specs on the car!

Haha, the Silversone "illegals" Steve?

I don't know if Dieter regularly reads this forum but he'll confirm there was a dodgy looking anorak dude at Blue Plains right where the oil was deliberatly put on the road. He had a sign reading "Wildlife not car rally" or similar and a video camera to document the wildlife slaughter that never happened.
He gladly accepted a free Targa hat from him though. I think a lot of the residents have been brainwashed by a few loud so called do-gooders.

I don't think Dieter does at all.

Dieter told me about this and showed me a photo of this guy and all his protesting friends wearing Targa West hats, I lol'd.

doesn't help that a long serving member of the thin blue line lives on the start line.
