Dave is a great! I was like "gosh, he seems familiar?!?", then my girlfriend recognised him as "the guy at one of the subaru shops I spent all my money at ". Then I *clicked*, its Dave from STechnic.

I was like RX7? Rotary? Autocross? Will be lots of Brap-Brap, Back-Fire and APEX Seal EXPLOSION But then the sound didn't match the cars and I did see youst steering it around the track, I thought you must have had the steering rack out of a TransPerth Bus.

The track was so slippery to start with, I rocked up around 5:10PM and saw the water truck Preparing the track. Even that was over/understeering around!!

Any reason why V6 over a Turbo-4 (SR20? FJ20?) or more to the point RX7 and not a Subaru?

Reasons for the horrible Moooooo sound were not based on good engineering or because we thought it would be good. In fact we kind of knew it would be shit but we did it anyway. The RX7 was a donation from a tow truck mate that was on its way to scrap. The rotary flywheel had exploded big time and cut the firewall, bonnet catch, gearbox etc all open. We had leftover commodore rally suspension and wheels from another defunct project and a rooted VR commodore auto wagon in the yard. We did not buy a single component for the project it was all shit.
It's got some sting in a straight line and getting into corners is ok, getting out of the corners is a big problem though! We couldn't fit a power steering rack in under the V6 sump so it had to me a non power rack which brings the excessive steering ratio. If we could be bothered to work out a solution it would be a lot better. It's only autocross though, realistically all you need is a FWD Impreza, Pulsar, Camira etc and you can win. Usually the less you care about the car the closer you can apex the tyre bundles and the faster you can go! the results are not based on consistency, only your fastest time counts so you just go for broke each run.

My son Lachlan & I both enjoyed it, he can't wait for the next one.
Might have to find some 14" rally tyres

Was entertaining watching Doug, Alex, the white corolla with orange and the yellow (mk1?) escort fang it around the track.

Seems more like an event for cheap bunkies, makes me want to buy an old corolla and go for broke with it

In our efforts to not be the slowest, we have beefed up the Shitbox Gti:

Set* of 13" rally tyres & mags - check
Chipped the ECU - check
Removed rear sway bar - check

Bring on tomorrow night!
Better not rain, our wipers don't work.

*Set meaning 3 jelly bean + 1 other, because rally car. What would you expect for $150 for the lot.

Rain rain get out of my sight,
You'll spoil my fun at the autocross tonight.

Go do your thing some other place,
Don't make me punch you in the face.

That should do it.

I think you lost that fight Alex.
With the volume of rain we got last night, the circuit would be a mudhole.
They've postponed it until next week.

Bump! It's on again tonight for anyone that wants to come have a look. I know there's a few from here that are competing tonight. I'll be floating around as per usual.

Live results from tonight are available on www.mstalr.com

Ps to the competitors: during recce keep the speed down, it got a little to quick last time!
