correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it due for a rebuild right about...now?

I remember him saying it himself...something along the lines of "when you are making that ammount of power, rebuilt every 20,000 approx..."

It's just part of owning a hi-po motor..

One of Gareths quotes in this thread is 'oh well it was due for a rebuild after 10,000 more kms'

Glad you may have found the workshop where the start of the problem MAY have occured, but how many people here have warned others not to go to the place... Maybe people will start listening

I heard a mechanic (longish haired) on the phone to a customer about his car while i was receivingsome great quality service from the owner / manager and the way this mechanic spoke to the customer, made me realise this place was even worse than what i thought.

Depending on how hard its driven and how often an engine like gareths should be pulled down 10-20000kms and check, replace bearigs, rings and clearance check etc etc to avoid engine failure.
Any car with big hp used regulary for track work etc should get checked regulary. Ring xspeed and ask Ant how often a 550hp+ RB26 gets pulled down... every 10000. Any motor pushed beyond what it was designed for will wear at a much faster rate.
