afaik the first "STi" RA was an MY96 (came out late 1995)...the MY95 was just a "WRX RA". Also the MY99 type spoiler did not come out until late 1996...it was first used (and from memory was only used once) on the
Group A WRX at the WRC Rally Portugal in the second part of 1996. The true identity of the car should be reflected on the compliance plate...something like GC8 47xxxx. I suggest you run that info past someone in the know (eg Steve at MMS). There have been a few cars bandied around as "genuine" STi RA which have not had the proper gear or proper engine & internals, so best to carefully check it out before committing. |

Oh yeah I will add, its not an aussie car. Only recently been imported from japan so its would be jap spec if that makes any difference.

I know the car you're talking about, dark blue with slight rear bumper damage?
It is a 1995 build STi RA so it has air cond (where the normal RA does not) It does have the roof vent, it does not have DCCD. It has a close ratio 3.9 trans. It has the early series engine with the angled intercooler (with water spray) Unusually it has a red wrinkle inlet manifold without 5th injector (this version usually has 5th inj and plain ally inlet) It has 2 piston front brakes only (as is usual on this model) Version 3 has a lot more going for it, better engine, 4 spots, 4.44 diffs etc. but this car is priced right and would be an excellent basis for a competition car. It is suitable for B rego only. |

^^^ Yeah thats the one, I did notice it had the different manifold on it aswell. I assumed it was swaped for some reason. Im not to botherd by the brakes as I've got a set of 03' brembos lined up. Im assuming then, this has an open deck engine thin if the ver 3 is better? I havnt had the chance to get the model No. yet and I suppose that will give me the answers I want.

Yes, version 3 is a big step forward over this car for the following reasons.
1/ facelifted front panels 2/ bigger intercooler 3/ better transmission 4/ 4 piston front brakes 5/ bigger camshafts 6/ roller bearing turbo with inlet under the manifold 7/ better air box/flow meter set up. However you will pay around 4K more for one. This car is priced very well, and would be a lot of fun for the dollars. I'm not sure, but I think all RA's have closed deck blocks. No biggie anyway, they're not required unless you boost the hell out of it. This car still has a lot going for it. 206 Kw engine & tune. Supposedly "hand assembled" engine, TD05, alloy front arms, alloy bonnet, close ratio trans (same first 5 gear ratios as a 6 speed), roof vent, STi seats, IC water spray, probably has stiffer engine and trans mounts etc. probably would have a power steering and engine oil coolers too. |
