Question 95' STi type RA

Hi guys,

Ive been offerd an original 95' STi RA and I was just wondering what turbo and block they have. Im hoping closed deck with a VF22, but I cant quite read whats on the turbo and on the block is "EJ20" if some of you more knowledgeable folks could tell me that would be great. also did they come with forged internals or not?? Is there any way of telling it is definatley an original RA??

Thanks in advance people

only the v3 sti came closed deck, the other sti engines till v6 were open deck.

forgies didnt exist until the my02 sti, prior to that they came as teflon or ceramic coated aluminium pistons.

If its a 95 ie. Version 2 STI RA it will actually have a closed deck block (only the RAs had closed deck) with a td05-small16G. It believe they did come with forged internals. A good way to tell if its an RA is to look for the fifth injector mounted on top dead centre of the inlet manifold plenum chamber just after the throttle body.

Semi-closed deck blocks never appeared until the Bugeye STi.
It does have forgies and a closed deck block and I would guess it still used a TD05 the '95 models still had the 90deg bend on the turbo inlet,

"Main features of the WRX STI 2
The limited model of handmade production, STi engine & inter cooler, Forged pistons, Exclusive setting ECU, High rear spoiler, Carbon fibre strut tower bar, 4-sensor 4-channel ABS, Center differential with viscous LSD & rear viscous LSD (WRX), Closed deck engine block (RA), Intercooler water spray(RA), DCCD (Electro-magnetic center differential) & rear mechanical LSD(RA), Roof ventilator (RA)."

OK.. I dont know about the 5th injector but ill have a look. Its got the strut bar, water spray, roof vent, the spoiler is the same that you would get on a 99'-00' WRX, NOT an STI. Im not sure about the DCCD either, not adjustable I dont think but its is a close ratio box. Also a little vent from the bonnet to the turbo. If it is a closed deck that would be tops! I'm guessing the car would be a good modding platform for a fairly serious street/track car which are my intentions. My thinking was the RA's did not have aircon which this one does. Thoughts? Thanks guys.

I dont believe it ever had aircon. When i was looking to buy my first rex, there was a ver2 chop n swap going around. Was a light blue gx shell, had the 5th injector, no aircon, close ratio box. (if you drive it, it should be doing about 3500 rpm @ 100kmh. (If the stock diff is 1.1:1. (3.54 final)
