Default External wastegate installs

Hi all,

Another question before oink goes into the workshop..

I've decided to go for an external gate with the TD06 since it's in the workshop.

Decided on the Tial, but I'm not keen on paying the $800 that the workshops are asking to supply the WG. Hoping that the TD06 will be running somewhere around 19-20psi (~1.4bar).

First question: Will a 38mm wastegate flow enough for this? Is it necessary to go a 41mm or a 44mm instead?

Second question: Springs. Since the target is about 1.4 bar, will the spring need to be a 1.4bar spring? The workshops who quoted offered an 0.7bar and a 1.0bar spring.

This is what I came across on ebay (Seems legit also):

38mm:

41mm:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/TIAL-WASTEGAT...QQcmdZViewItem

Obviously I want the right WG for the job (a little more than what is necessary maybe), however, I don't want overkill.

Thanks in advance once again

Luca.

Is there any reason you'd choose to go an External Gate? What kind of dump pipe do you have?

If you've got a good one, save yourself the coin and stick with the OEM WG that comes with that Turbo?

Well if your just doing it for the wank rice factor go for the biggest one. Otherwise, the 38mm one will be fine.

i operated a internal wastegate with around 2 bar of manifold pressure on a vf34/vf35, i then tried a external waste gate (38mm turbosmart) and upped the manifold pressure to 2.3/2.4 bar, it was still more then enough to cope with whatever manifold pressure you plan to operate. remember that your header-up pipe diameter is not much larger then 45-50mm anyhow, so to slot a 38mm hole into the up pipe for a waste gate and still experience boost creep- there must be problems with the gate or boost control.

as a side note, there was little to no improvement in installing an external gate.

38mm dosent have the v-band which comes with the tial-44mm. id recommend getting the 44 just as u have less chance of leak around the joins.

U can combine a 1 and 0.5 bar spring to make it open at 1.5bar.. u wouldnt want to get a 1bar spring as the gate will be opening up when u dont want it to.

Just been listening to a few screamer pipes on youtube .. Sounds kinda fucked i reckon - When she's screaming just sounds like you're running without a muffler ..

Haha, on watching a few more, Sounds like the VTEC is kicking in!
