Thank you for your enquiry regarding KAPS Transmissions 6 Speed sequential gearboxes.

KAPS for many years have produced Dog Gearbox Kits for Subaru, Mitsubishi and other makes for competition use… now a fully sequential gear changing unit is available. Using the similar Dog ring engagement and coupled with a custom gear selector drum, seamless gear changes can be made!

KAPS have supplied Sequential gearboxes to Japan, USA, Belgium, Czech Republic and Australia. Approximately 6 units are in active competition use and their primary applications have been in Rally Cross and Rallying. One Rally Cross car has been noted of running a KAPS Sequential Gearbox with 780nm torque and 500HP without problems.

KAPS produce the sequential gearbox from KAPS custom parts and Standard Series parts (e.g.: Subaru Standard 6 Speed), so a donor gearbox is required for assembly.

Standard series parts required are:
-Front housing
- Differential
- Crown ‘n’ pinion
- DCCD Unit
- Rear housing and other smaller series parts.

The common front and rear housings allow for easy compatibility between manufacture’s vehicle evolutions (e.g.: Subaru 1992 GC8 thru to 2007 GDB Models).

The complete KAPS Sequential kit includes the following items;
- Straight cut Dog engagement gears
- Special Sequential gear selector drum
- Shifting Rollers, Forks, Shafts and other essential parts
- EPS Cutting Sensor and computer (patent for KAPS)
- LED Gear display and wiring loom
- Sequential shifting lever
- EPS Computer software
- Gearbox service manual

EPS Cutting System cuts the fuel injection to seamless make full throttle gear changes possible (without use of the clutch). Cutting times can be varied for each gear on the EPS computer via a laptop computer (USB connection). Typically 1st gear 125ms thru to 6th gear 80ms cutting times. Shifting lever force can be modified as well.

Basic price for KAPS Sequential gearbox is: 23000 Euro
(full assembly with customer supplied donor gearbox is approx: 28000 Euro)

Some additional points of interest about KAPS Transmissions Subaru Sequential Gearbox are;
- Approximately 10kg lighter than Standard 6 speed (without oil)
- Can use STI or other front LSDs in gearbox.
- Centre gearbox housing is KAPS custom CNC machined.
- Meshed internal oil ports prevent metal particles from moving around gearbox.
- 1:1 drop gears (3.9 ratio rear differential required)
- Standard prop shaft length may need to be modified to fit gearbox.
- Reverse gear can be selected from 6th gear (when car is stationary)

That kit looks ok Ramon, I am not aware of any other being manufactured anywhere.

Like I said I would love for us to do it, but we are just too busy at the moment. Honestly for the pain and heartache that will inevitably be involved I think we would only do it as a stand alone gearbox. The KAPS one looks like it uses standard diffs and some of the original cases, so thats where the problem is. They break and we get blamed.

We are now doing sequential kits for Porsche's, Lambo's and Astins, this works because they are all really good gearboxes to start with.

Japanese car companies have NO idea about designing strong, well thought out boxes. They are all massively underated for what their cars can achieve. The new suby six speed if HUGE yet still no where near strong enough. It is not as strong as it is heavy if you ctach my drift. Typical.

So again at the moment it is a definate no. Check again in a couple of years when things may have settled down.

i was just discussing this yesterday.

i want ro paddle-shift.

well not wanted, but we were discussing how it would work. do to you require a auto box and then customize electronic controls, or a unique gearbox as this suggests.

anybody in the know?

Think the WRC basicaly use the above design as far as the gear selector leaver just that the paddles operate an actuator connected to the leaver. No software etc to make the shitfer work just a direct electrical connection. As for the box no idea on what is involved in that.

Have a look at the next in car shots you see. Would be the easiest way to get a paddle shit I woud imagine.

What are the prodrive 6 speed sequentials going for? 100,000Aus new? Any used ones around?

either way, it's alot of money and the 5 speed dog you have might suit a sequential system adapted to it?

paddle-shit vehicles exist already. minis, skylines, at the lower spectrum of the cost.

these all appear to be on 'seqential automatic' gearboxes. to there must be a low cost option out there. otherwise people would be ripping out skyline boxes and forcing them to fit in other vehicles...

or am i completly in left field...

KEEP THE HOLINGER and get the Kaps sequential mechanism. Check their website, they do a sequential mechanism to suit H-pattern Subaru gearboxes.

Or get the drag auto that the rigoli boys use. It comes with a sequential shift setup via a remote button on the steering wheel for up and down.

Only 4 speed but still as fast as a sequential manual and will be faster over qtr and easier on your driveshafts.

Was $8,800 supplied but not fitted when I priced it up.
