Default Catted Up Pipe on Bugeyes?

Ok guys I can't recall and I am trying to help a mate out. Did the 2002 ADM WRX have the cat up pipe issue or was that only the 2001 model?

Yeah only 01 & 02 wrx's. The usual problem is that the cat breaks up or melts sending bits into the turbo wheel and bending blades.

Thats exactly right. There is a cat on the up-pipe. Yes it is a restriction, but more so, as the cat ages, it will eventually break apart sending pieces of the ceramic core flying directly into the turbo exhaust wheel. Usually resulting in damage to the turbo.

replace it with a cat-less up-pipe. Either aftermarket of from a different model WRX like the 03+ WRX or 02+ STI.

Your GC8 doesnt have a cat in the up-pipe. No need to replace it.
