Boost Controller Question
Hi guys i hear alot of bad reports of manual boost controllers but i have a quick question none the less . . .
I wanna install a GFB manual boost controller to the car, not to increase boost but to iron out spiking and bring boost on harder . . . So im thinking there will be no problem as long as i keep the boost lvl standard . . . is this rite ?? or am i missing something ?? thanks guys Dan Last edited by disc0-dan; 03-01-2008 at 06:16 PM. |

You'll be missing an engine installing one of these for any purpose.....

Hey i could be wrong, but would you risk it failing? And bring on boost harder? How excatly will it bring on boost harder if you are not increasing the boost in the first place?

Well its not a ball and spring opperated boost controller so failure is not really a option from what im reading ...
as for the boost coming on quicker i cant find the article again, but it says it brings on the boost quicker without actually upping the boost ... i just wanna know why they are such a despised piece of equipment ... If im not raising boost i dont quite understand the problem ? Im just probing for some answers **** delays the pressure signal from entering the wastegate, which inturn spools up the turbo faster, resulting in more boost at lower RPM. **** i found something... discuss ? :P |

Mate go ahead and install it.
Go for a hard drive on a really cold night. BOOST SPIKE. BANG. Then when you get home call ASG for a new engine. |

This is most probaly the hardest thing to ever ask on this forum and get a well informed response isnt it ... all im asking for is the reasoning behind why installing a MBC not to increase BOOST but to DECREASE spiking and INCREASE response will kill the engine ...
im not in the proccess of installing anything im mearly asking question coz im curious :S !!!! plzzz answer resonably not just the same old " U INSTALL IT-IT GO BANG... HA HA HA " theory every1 has... i just wanna kno what will cause it to bang etc ... plzzz |

IMO that maintaining stock levels of boost with a MBC will not blow your engine (if your engine happens to overboost - you'll hit boost cut)
I've also read on the GFB website that boost comes on earlier and stronger but i believe this is because the whole boost curve gets shifted up (ie overall boost is raised) and this in itself is risky for obvious reasons. So IMO that there's very little performance to be gained from a MBC without raising boost. |

AFAIK all it does it trick the ecu into thinking theres less air than there actually is, hence it runs lean without fuel compensation. I think what you want is an EBC which will help keep your wastegate closed to a more accurate pressure.
I might be wrong though

Mate you seem pretty dead set keen on it. I honestly cant see a major problem with it. Go ahead and install it and be happy. BTW id be intrested in excatly what delaying a signal from entering the wastegate (do signals enter wastegates? i thought a wastegate is for bleeding PSI whilst spooling) means. Can someone explain this excatly.

Spose i answered my own question up top heh.
