have read several posts with regards to a "cheap" power upgrade for a MY99 wrx ....some suggest just running a VF34, Upgraded Fuel pump and V5/6 Sti ECU
I've got my hands on a V6 Sti ECU and just wondering if it's a simple plug n play replacement...or do I need to splice / crossover and wiring for this to work? also, would it work without any of the hardware upgrades or is the ECU specifically running a tune for the VF34 (i.e. will not be right for the TD04??) Cheers |

My00 Sti ecu in My00 WRX not starting - Impreza WRX Club Inc. Forum http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/mechanic...-thoughts.html The V5/6 ECU is a direct plug in for MY99/00 GC8, requiring 3 wires to be swapped on the connectors. I ran it on mine for a few years until I recently went aftermarket ECU. The STI ECU with a turbo upgrade and full 3 inch turbo back exhaust will transform the car! It will run with a VF34, I was running a VF24 (I reckon the VF turbos are all pretty much the same anyway). |

Which wires did you have to swap around?

It works the car starts n revs nice.
Ok the advice I will give other's is that the plug pics in the above link are facing you and to b careful ur not trying to remove plug 9 when you want 1. Also watch this video to show u have to remove the pins(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0b8eJDL7deI) So in short to put a sti jdm ecu in a aus wrx u need to swap pin 5 and 6 on the blue plug and also move pin 1 to the empty 21 position on the black plug THIS IT? just double checking, i had to swap the cam sensor wire for powerfc. thanks |

From memory the v5/6 STI ECU has a very aggressive tune for JDM 100RON so you will need to be very careful and have a knock link at a minimum because they do not pull timing on knock.

You wont need an electronic boost controller, the V6 STI ECU will run at 14 psi by default.....

If you override the car's original boost solenoid to put in a ball and spring type MBC, can the ECU still delay ignition and detect "knocking" beyond that it cannot lower pressure?
